Overall, Debian is made up of basic software programs and utilities. The default installation of Debian on desktop computers comes with many graphical applications (most of them are free and open source) such as Firefox Web Browser, LibreOffice, VLC Media Player, GIMP Image Editor, and Evense Document Viewer. Debian has over 51,000 software packages (pre-compiled packages) which can be easily installed on the system using commands, or any graphical software. This is one of the first (or oldest) distributions in Linux's history, and the first version was released in 1993. Debian is a free and open source Linux operating system designed primarily for desktop / laptop computers and servers.
